What is career coaching?

Career coaching builds the skills you need to develop your career. A career coach will act as a trusted mentor who will guide you to overcome challenges, build confidence, improve your approach to the job market and achieve your professional goals.

A career coach is not a counsellor or therapist. They will not focus on your past, instead, they focus on building your competency to achieve what you want in the future.

Taking big steps in your professional life can be daunting, especially if you’re new to the game, have been in a comfortable job for a while or lack confidence.

It may be that you’re unhappy in your job, or you’re not in a career that fits your values or utilises your skillset. Perhaps you want to take the plunge and begin working on something you are truly passionate about, but have no idea where to begin. Or maybe it’s your first time looking for a professional job and you need support through the process. Whatever the career challenge, a career coach will work with you to find the solution.

When to get a Career Coach

When you’re unsure about the next step to take in your career, you feel trapped in your current role, or you’re struggling to find a job you love, it’s a good time to get a career coach.

It doesn’t matter if you have just graduated from University or whether you’re approaching retirement age, coaching will be beneficial for you. This is because every life stage comes with different challenges, whether we are in our 20s just starting to compete and succeed on the job market, or reaching our 50s and experiencing a distinct lack of enthusiasm and opportunity in our careers.

At some point in our lives, we all experience a want for something different from our work. Often this shows up as a wanting to transition into a more holistic approach of working, something I like to call that is ‘a lifestyle career’. A coach can help you with this too.

How career coaching can help you

Career coaching will teach you the skills to understand what you want of your job, and out of your career. The skills you learn in coaching will enable you to find more meaning in your work, build better relationships with colleagues and increase your success at work.

Career coaching will also enable you to develop the skills needed to create the work-life balance or lifestyle career that many dream of. For those who find themselves unhappy in their jobs, dreaming of doing another career, yet feeling stuck and unable to move towards their dream career change, a coach will enable you to understand what it truly is you are looking for. And if that’s a career change, they’ll help you make the best choice for you.

Sometimes, those dreaming of a drastic career change may end up falling back in love with their work, and realising a career change is not what they want after all. Instead, they will have learnt the skills needed to gain more enjoyment out of their job.

As your coach, I’ll help you unlock your greatest potential and get you set up for success. I’ll teach you how to learn and utilise tools such as neuro-cognitive remodelling, positive psychology and neurolingquistic programming as every-day straight-forward strategies, as well as the approaches I have developed from over 10 years of working as a career coach.

I’ve helped hundreds find new jobs and turn their work-lives around, Now it’s your turn. Together, we’ll work out a plan that’s unique to you, and we’ll outline the steps you need to take to get there.

In this next section, I outline my career development package in more detail.
